Can you make a playlist on Spotify? I haven't heard of a couple of the artists on your Best Music list, and I wouldn't even know where to begin! (Also I don't know why the link sent me to this post, I think I'm a week off!)
My homie and I are planning to check out American Symphony, thanks for the rec! I’m also a big fan of Sula & Beloved. Toni Morrison’s pen game is unmatched. Especially in Sula, I appreciate how beautifully she wrote about Nel & Sula’s friendship, as well as how they come to know themselves deeper in solitude.
oh i hope you enjoy the documentary as much as i did, i’ve already rewatched it! i agree - toni morrison’s writing has been so magically influential to me, i can’t wait to read more of her work.
This is an incredible top ten! I have an longstanding interest in the relationship between art-making and motherhood, so just placed a library hold for The Baby on the Fire Escape. Ferrante's Neapolitan novels were my top reads of this year -- the second and third volumes are even better than first! Can't wait for your thoughts on the whole series 💜
I just finished C. Pam Zhang's Land of Milk and Honey and I think it's my favorite of the year! It's speculative fiction about pleasure, excess, ethics, climate disaster, and colonialism, and boy did I have so much to consider listening to it on my 10 hour drive to Thanksgiving at my grandma's house.
