love the matrix! and a great piece. I think this way of assigning morality has always existed (I wrote a few posts back about the history of makeup and misogyny) but the technically irreversible nature of plastic surgery makes it all the more vitriolic vis a vis a woman’s face coming to stand for her whole existence and justifying or degrading her public position

Obsessssssssssed with the matrix 🫡 this is one of my favorite ways to consider culture things and I think you nailed it

Ah thank you so much! Felt a bit like Charlie with the bulletin board in Always Sunny but I’m so glad it resonated 😩

The matrix!! She’s a mathematician 🫡 this is a really, really great point. I am fascinated by plastic surgery culture but it can’t be viewed in a vacuum.

I still think about the photo of Renee Zellweger in like 2014 where everyone lost their minds and then Owen Gleiberman wrote an entire weird, offside article called "Renee Zellweger: If she no longer looks like herself has she become a different actress?" 💀

ah exactly!!! or the pandemonium when Kylie Jenner first got lip filler, in comparison to now when filler is everyyywhere. feels like the goal post is always moving!
